WESTVILLE – A sinkhole appearing near a water main at the Westville Correctional Facility has left the facility without running water for five days.

WSBT reports that all water had to be drained from lines and the above ground storage tank in order to make repairs. As of Monday, it’s reported that six to seven of the 25 housing units have had their water restored.

Each unit is being brought online one at a time to ensure everything works properly. It’s unclear how long it will take for all water lines to be restored.

Bottled water and water trucks were brought in to allow sources of clean drinking water during the repairs.

Port-a-potties were brought in for staff and inmate use. The facility houses 3,000 inmates.
