SALEM, Ore. — The second inmate who walked away from his work crew Tuesday in Salem has been apprehended, troopers said.
William McGinnis, a 30-year-old inmate at Salem’s Mill Creek Correctional Facility, was arrested near an Applebee’s restaurant early Thursday evening, the Oregon State Police said in a news release.
He was caught after a 9-1-1 caller identified him a a nearby McDonald’s restaurant because of his neck tattoo, troopers said.
The caller told authorities that McGinnis left the McDonald’s and entered the Applebee’s, and authorities confronted him in the latter restaurant. He tried to leave through the kitchen, went out a back door and was apprehended without incident.
McGinnis and Justin Carnes, another 30-year-old inmate at the same prison, left their respective work crews around noon Tuesday, according to the Oregon Department of Corrections.
Carnes was apprehended earlier Thursday in the backyard of a home near Kuebler Boulevard and Sunnyside Road Southeast, troopers said.
