NC prison inmate escapes from custody

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Forsyth County man has escaped from custody this morning.

According to a N.C. Department of Public Safety news release, William Bailey, 31, had just been treated and released from the Forsyth Memorial Hospital emergency room when he escaped around 7 a.m. The reason for his hospital visit could not be disclosed due to confidentiality

Bailey was serving about a three-year sentence for several counts of possession with intent to sell a controlled substance at Forsyth Correctional Institution and was scheduled for release in May 2017.

Anyone who has seen Bailey or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call local law enforcement or Forsyth Correctional Institution at 336-896-7041.
