JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities say a Florida inmate injured after a fight with officers who used a stun gun has died.
The Florida Times-Union reports 44-year-old Paul Testa was taken off of life support on Tuesday.
Testa was arrested after a neighbor complained he was in the backyard fighting with a dog. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says Testa was combative and that officers used a stun gun to restrain him.
Authorities say Testa became angry again later after a judge committed him to a mental hospital. Officers restrained Testa again using a stun gun, and he was sent to a hospital in critical condition.
Sheriff’s officials are investigating whether excessive force was used.
Testa’s attorney Eugene Nichols is asking for a state investigation into Testa’s death.
