Tenn. correctional officer, 23, killed in crash on way to work

Addison Pickett, an officer at Turney Center Industrial Complex, is remembered for her integrity and constant smile

ONLY, Tenn. — A 23-year-old Tennessee correctional officer was killed in a crash while driving to her shift at the Turney Center Industrial Complex.

Correctional Officer Addison Pickett had served at the state prison since January 2024, according to the Tennessee Department of Correction. Authorities have not released details about what led to the crash.

For her family, the loss still feels surreal.

“It’s like walking around in a dream, like, it still doesn’t feel real,” her mother, Trisha Pickett, told WSMV.

In a statement shared on social media, TDOC said she “is remembered by her TCIX colleagues as an officer with integrity who always had a polite demeanor, inquisitive nature, and constant smile.”

Her death has left colleagues across the facility grieving the loss of a young officer described as dedicated and professional.

Pickett’s decision to join the corrections profession was inspired by her father, her family told WSMV. Family members said she was proud of her role and committed to her work inside the facility.

Outside the walls, her most important role was being a mother.

Pickett was a devoted single parent to her 2-year-old son. Her family says that bond is now helping carry them through the unimaginable.

“We’re gonna miss her, that’s obvious, it’s a no-brainer,” a family member said. “We’re gonna raise that baby, bring her honor and make her happy, and he’s gonna know every day that she loved him.”
