MIAMI — The Florida Supreme Court has upheld the death sentences imposed on a man convicted of five murders in two separate 2007 robberies, including one in which the victims were set on fire.
The justices upheld the convictions and sentences imposed on Leon Davis Jr. He was convicted of killing two women — one of them pregnant — in the fiery robbery of a Lake Wales insurance office and shooting two clerks at a nearby gas station days later.
The high court on Thursday also ordered a hearing for death row inmate William Lee Thompson, who was convicted of a 1976 killing. Thompson’s mental disabilities may bar his execution.
