EDMONTON, Canada — A correctional officer died Thursday after experiencing a medical emergency during exercises at the Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Training Academy.
Fellow officers and friends identified the CO as Solomon Osagiede, who had recently moved to Canada from Nigeria, reports the Edmonton Journal. He began working at the Edmonton Remand Centre in December.
Friends have established a GoFundMe page for Osagiede’s family. The page notes that “Solomon was a loving spirit whom brought warmth and comfort to any room he walked into. Mr. Osagiede was a dedicated correctional peace officer that would always strive to succeed in every challenge.”
Officials from Occupational Health and Safety have launched an investigation into Osagiede’s death
